Part social practice, part educational opportunity, part apothecary–

each offering from Other Dust is inspired by working with dreams, divination, plants, myth, poetics, and somatics to nurture collaboration between our hearts, minds, guts, each other and the world around/in us. Kayle believes creating cosmic connections with our daily rituals reminds us we are all sparkly specks of dust settling onto this water-rock we call home.

Meet Kayle *

Kayle Karbowski is a facilitator and creatrix living on the western banks of Lake Michigan. In 2019, she founded Other Dust, a psychospiritual consultancy and technoapothecary focusing in developing intuition and reclaiming interdependence in an age of disconnection. A driving force of Kayle’s work is rekindling the relationship between our intellect and intuition, so their practice has many faces. From crafting talismans and potions, as well as working with people through tarot and beyond, Other Dust is a social and personal practice of divination, ritual, tending, and artmaking.

  • Kayle’s formal education is from Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design (BFA 2015) and they continue their education through workshops, study groups, and personally led inquiry. She has received grants and residencies such as the Mary L Nohl Suitcase Export Fund Award in 2016, MASS Gallery in Austin, TX (artist in residence, 2016) and The Future in Minneapolis, MN (artist in residence, 2018). After years curating and organizing in various institutional and independent art scenes, She returned to MIAD in 2019 to teach and is currently the Rapid Prototyping Technician in the Emerging Technology Center. In 2022, Kayle completed a 9 month training for flower essence practitioners with Liz Miglorelli (Sister Spinster).

Kayle has a curious mind and her work has as many outputs as it does inputs; a few current interests include coding, herbalism, and higher learning institutions. They are fascinated by humanity's drive to craft stories and tools at any cost and derives great pleasure from doing these things herself.

  • Kayle grew up in the suburbs of Chicago in a blue collar household. Her mother has been a bartender, mother and hometender for 30+ years. Their mother’s family comes from Germany and Ireland, though not much is known about this side of the family.

Kayle’s primary familial traditions come from her paternal grandmother’s side of the family- she is of the 5th generation of her Italian ancestors (from the Salerno region) who immigrated to the United States in the 1800’s. The traditions, folklore, and food of their Italian-American & Roman Catholic family are a main inspiration to Kayle’s work. Their paternal grandfather’s side is of Polish ancestry.

Pricing Structure

I created Other Dust to help people reconnect and grow their intuition and sense of interconnectedness in our wild world. I believe this is a birth right and should be available to all.

I acknowledge that I live within late capitalism, which means that I have to make money in order to offer goods and services while sustaining my ability to live. Simultaneously, I have come to learn through years of offering my services at various levels of financial accessibility (including free services) that money serves as a method of exchange that allows my clients to meet my offerings halfway. Money facilitates an agreement that we will work together, and that my labor is of value to them. It also holds me accountable for what I have to offer my clients. When I have a bit of spaciousness in the income I receive from Other Dust, I donate what I can to local advocacy groups.

Money is not the only way to create this agreement and I am always happy to do trades. If you are interested in doing a trade, please email me at kayle[dot]otherdust[dot]be to discuss!

I have included here an illustration of “The Green Bottle” sliding scale framework created by Alexis J Cunningfolk, which links to their website with an expanded description.
