BEING OTHER DUST: The Lost Women of Christmas & Their Domestic Spellcraft with Rachael Gonzalez

SOLD OUT!

Modern Christmas celebrations place all emphasis on the birth of Jesus & Santa Claus; but what about the pre-Christian celebrations of yuletide? Who quietly shaped, crafted, baked, tended and transformed the Christmas table, crafts and hearth space? In this workshop, we will explore the forgotten female figures and wandering spirits of Christmas time and their ties to domestic labor, magic, and self empowerment; with a special emphasis on Sankta Lucia. We will also learn how to bake her ceremonial buns in the Swedish fashion, and discuss other charms of the hearth space to carry us through the darkest nights of the year.

BYO Mugwort Wands

Herbal smoke wands are an easy way of bundling fresh, aromatic herbs to be burned once dried. They smell wonderful, and depending on the herbs you use, the smoke can also cleanse the air physically and energetically.

Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) is a plant well known for its association with the dream realm. After demonstrating the basics of wrapping a smoke wand, I'll talk further about affinities and uses of Mugwort.

Introduction to Flower Essences & Flower Remedies @ Driftless Folk School

Introduction to Flower Essences & Flower Remedies @ Driftless Folk School

In this class, students will be introduced to the homeopathic medicine of Flower Remedies (or flower essences). Flower Essences are an energetic form of plant medicine made from vibrational infusion of plants in spring water, preserved, and ingested in drop doses.

Through supporting our exploration of energetic patterns (emotional, psychological, spiritual, etc.), they enable us to relate to the world in the particular pattern of the flower. This process creates a new relationship with themes in our lives. When we make a flower essence, we are working with the spirit of the plant, which means we are also working with the spirit of place, the elements, stories, stars, and more. Their effects are gentle and are best utilized over longer periods of time to help shift perspective or provide support to one in a time of change. Unlike a tincture or essential oil, essences do not contain constituents of plants, making them generally safe for all.

We will spend a day in the realm of Flora by learning how to make our own flower essences from individual flowers as well as practice creating our own formulas of multiple essences to work with a particular set of energies at once. This workshop is suitable for beginning flower enthusiasts to seasoned herbalists alike!
